Francis Parkman, the eminent historian, died Wednesday at his home in Jamaica Plain.

Mr. Parkman was one of the most brilliant scholars of his day and has won a world-wide reputation by his contributions to the studs of American history. His studies were confined chiefly to the period of the early settlements of America, especially those of the French. For thirteen years he was a member of the corporation and for six years was on the Board of Overseers.
