The New Harvard Union is the successor of the old Union and its purpose is to encourage debating and public speaking. Its members are selected by public competitions held at various times during the year and open to all who wish to try. At the regular meetings after the principal disputants have spoken, any one may take part.
The union will begin its work for the year by holding a meeting Friday night of this week in Sever 11. The debate will be led by four members of the union and then will be thrown open to the house when anyone will be welcome to speak. The subject will be, Resolved, that the Ways and Means Committee is justified in having taken up the consideration of the tariff at this time. Two weeks from Friday a meeting will be held to select new members.
