Yale's New Gymnasium.

Work on the new Yale gymnasium is progressing rapidly and from present appearances the building will be opened to the public for inspection on Tuesday, June 28th, and will be entirely ready for use by next Autumn.

During the past few weeks the floor of the gymnasium proper, which occupies the two top stories of the building, has been laid and the wainscoting and seats finished and varnished. The running track has also been completed and the room is in readiness for the gymnasium apparatus.

The swimming tank, situated on the first floor, will be ready for use as soon as the bottom, which is to be constructed of white brick, similar to those upon the sides of the tank has been laid. The rowing tanks will be completed next week, after the beds have been laid out and cemented. The small stair cases leading to the second floor and basement are now being put in place, and the main stair-case of marble is almost finished. A floor has been laid in the basement, and the baths have been put up, and separated by marble slabs. The elevator shaft has been completed, but, except in the gymnasium proper, there remains a great deal of woodwork to be done. The work of the stonecutters and plumbers is nearly finished, so that the carpenters will soon be able to proceed more rapidly. Around the outside of the building a walk has been constructed, and the ground behind the building is to be graded off, in view of the proposed track there.
