A diamond was marked out on Jarvis field yesterday, and the candidates for the nine practiced on it all the afternoon. The infield was tolerably dry, but not so dry that the ball did not get heavy. Besides, there was a snow bank behind first base, into which the ball was knocked several times. Nevertheless the first and second nines played a seven innings game, and the second nine won. The score was nine to eight. The work of the team was sometimes quick, but the men very naturally showed that they were new to outdoor work, and several errors were made which a little more practice should render impossible. Towards the end of the game nobody seemed able to pick up the ball, and one man made the round of the bases on three or four successive errors. The sliding was good at times, but the base running was often ill-judged, and many men were caught between bases, as on Wednesday. Hovey and Clarkson made several good hits. The first nine was made up of the following men: Upton, c.; Howe, p.; Dickinson, b.; Frothingham '93, 2b, Cook, Dean, 3b.; Hovey, s. s.; Corbett, r. f.; Hallowell, c. f.; Dean, Frothingham '94, l. f. The other team was: Cobb, c.; Bowman, Wiggin, Bates, p.; Dinsmore, Trafford, 1b.; Clarkson, 2b.; Brown, 3b.; Soule, s. s.; Neff, r. f.; Wood, c. f.; Mason. l. f.
