Harvard Defeated by Dartmouth 4

Harvard was defeated yesterday in the game with Dartmouth at Hanover, N. H., by a score of 4 to 3. The game was one of the closest that has been played this year. The batteries were for Dartmouth, O'Connor and Ranney, for Harvard, Highlands and Upton. Both of the teams got precisely the same number of hits and strikeouts, and only three bases on balls were given during the game.

Harvard scored the first run in the second inning. Dickinson got first on an error, stole second and came in on a very pretty hit by Corbett. The latter was thrown out in trying to steal second. Harvard scored again in the fifth on a hit by Mason, and an error by Brown at short. This ended the scoring for Harvard until the eighth, when Hallowell got his base on balls, and was brought in on a beautiful three bagger by Frothingham.

In the sixth inning, by a bunching of errors on Harvard's part, and hits by Dartmouth the latter got two runs. In the seventh Brown got a little scratch hit, and scored on a three-bagger by Burdette. Tuxbury then lined out the ball and brought in Burdette, being left on base himself. This ended the scoring for Dartmouth.

Upton received a severe fracture of the thumb on a foul tip and was obliged to retire. Bates and Shurtleff will be the pitchers tomorrow.
