The Senior Crew.

The '92 crew in spite of the fact that all the men who rowed in the winning boat last year are in college does not seem to have the brightest of prospects. Jones who rowed seven last year has charge of the freshman crew. Porter will probably not row. Weed is at present stroking the second 'varsity crew. Stearns, Steadman, Heard and Hubbard have not yet gone into training. The result is that Captain Watriss has an entirely green crew to work with. The candidates that rowed last week were Walcott, Young, Ganson, Gratwick, G. McKay, Frost and Cummin. Of these Gratwick and Cummin have not had much experience in rowing. McKay has not as yet shown up very promisingly. Frost has never rowed before and it is too early to tell yet what he can do. Ganson is one of the ten strongest men in college but is not altogether in perfect form and is suffering severely from a lame shoulder received at foot ball. Johnson who has been rowing regularly till within a few days when he was taken seriously ill, is very heavy and strong and when he is able to get out again will prove a valuable addition to the boat. Walcott is an old oar having just missed his freshman crew and the class crews of successive years. His great faults are in his back, legs and arms, his body work is also a little weak but will doubtless improve before May.

In spite of many obstacles Captain Watriss is doing his best to turn out a winning crew. At present the work is in the gymnasium, after which they take a quarter mile spin up North Avenue. F. B. Winthrop '91 is assisting Captain Watriss in training the men.
