The Harvard Republican Club with over five hundred names on its membership roll has already entered upon an active participation in the political campaign. A number of its members have been at work during the summer organizing republican clubs and addressing political meetings. The club was well represented at Buffalo, and was prominent in the meeting of the National League of College Republican Clubs, which was held during the convention of the National Republican League. The work of the club both outside and inside the college will be continued with renewed activity during the campaign. A number of the speakers of the club have been engaged during September speaking throughout Massachusetts, and will continue their work on the stump until after election.
The first public meeting of the club will be held in Sanders Theatre on Monday, October 10, at which Ex-Gov. J. Q. A. Brackett and Curtis Guild Jr., will speak. Arrangements have been made for a large mass meeting in Boston the evening of November 5th, at which prominent graduates of Harvard will speak. A large quantity of campaign literature will soon be distributed throughout the University.
A novel feature of the club is the organization of a brass band by 25 of its musical members. Arrangements are being made for a joint debate between the Republican and Democratic clubs. The two clubs will also take charge of the Harvard torch light procession which was such a success four years ago.
Hon. John Simpkins, President of the Massachusetts Republican Club has presented a large flag bearing the pictures of Harrison and Reid. This will be raised after the meeting for the election of officers which will be held next week. A Harvard republican headquarters will soon be established.
