The freshmen were defeated by St. Marks Academy at Southboro yesterday in a poorly played game. St. Mark's scored a run in the first inning on a hit by Barber, a stolen base and an error by Quigley. The freshmen went to pieces in the seventh, and St. Marks made 6 runs on 5 base hits, a stolen base, and 6 errors.
The freshmen scored twice in the second. Lowell got his base on fumbled grounder, stole second, and reached third on a wild pitch. Clarke got his base on balls and stole second, and both men scored on Harding's single. Two more runs were made in the fourth. Clarke made a hit, stole second and came home on the muff of Harding's fly to right. Harding took second on the throw in, went to third on a muff by centre field who tried to catch him at second, and came home on Minton's hit. Cabot got his base on balls in the eighth, stole second, and scored on Linnfield's single. Minton pitched a good game for the freshmen, striking out 11 men, and allowing but 3 hits in the six innings he pitched.
