Professor Cohn's Departure.

It is announced that Assistant-Professor Adolphe Cohn of the French department has been appointed Professor of Romance Languages at Columbia. Although Professor Cohn has made no public statement, it is altogether probable that he will accept the appointment to Columbia and will begin his duties there next autumn.

Professor Cohn has been connected with Harvard since the fall of 1884 when he came from Columbia where he had been an instructor in French. He was appointed assistant-professor in French at Harvard, and not long ago was re-appointed to the same position for a term of five years. During his successful labors at Harvard he has acquired an enviable reputation outside of the collee as well for his brilliant discussions of the various political situations of France and Germany.

It is also announced that Mr. Eugene H. Babbitt '86, has been appointed instructor in German at Columbia. Since graduating, he has spent some time as an instructor in the German department here. For the last year or two he has been studying abroad.
