The class games yesterday afternoon were fairly successful, but no very good time was made owing to the high wind which was blowing all the time.
In the mile walk, however, the Harvard record was broken by R. S. Hale '91, who made it in 6 m. 56 1-5 s. The former record was made on May 9th, 1887, by H. H. Bemis '87, who walked the mile in 6 m. 59 1-2 s. Both Mr. Merrill, the judge of walking, and Mr. Lathrop allowed the record, but the greater part of the spectators thought Hale's style illegal. Hale has been disqualified a number of times for his peculiar gait, and it is doubtful if a judge unfamiliar with his style would allow it.
The 220 yards course was not completed in time for the games, so the actual run of all the 220 yards events was only two-thirds of that distance.
