Scratch Races.

The annual scratch races of the boat club took place over the quarter-mile course, in front of the boat-house, on the Charles River, on Saturday. A large number of students witnessed the contests.

The first race was between the upper class crews, as follows: First crew-Bow, C. H. Taylor, Jr.; 2, Amory; 3, Crehore; 4, Hebard; 5, Ayer; 6, Hartridge; 7, Hale; stroke, Storrow. Second crew-Bow, Pfeiffer; 2, Davis; 3, Matthews; 4, Parker; 5, Alexander; 6, Slocum; 7, B. T. Tilton; stroke, Pfeiffer. The first named crew won by about a length. The coxwain was Browne, '88. Four freshmen crews then gave an amusing exhibition of crabbing. The crews were:

First crew-Valle, captain; R. W. Atkinson, G. Winthrop, N. Longworth, Jr., A. J. Garceau, C. F. Leland, C. R. Walter, F. P. Sears.

Second crew-Longstreth, captain; F. Winthrop, S. D. Parker, R. B. Hale, J. L. Hodge, John Duff, S. C. Brackett, Henry Rich.

Third crew-W. M. Randol, captain; C. R. S. Putnam, G. S. Osgood, F. Tudor, jr.; R. Wainwright, E. J. Knapp, F. S. Rogers, F. P. Dering.

Fourth crew-Bishop, captain; J. A. Shaw, Jr., Joseph Seiter, George Tyson, R. S. Barlow, H. H. Baker, P. Y. DeNormandie, J. W. Lawrence.

Crew No. 2, coxswained by Browne, won, with the third crew a close second. Cups will be given to the members of the winning crews.
