The game at Providence Saturday was the best that the nine has played for a long time. The fielding was practically errorless, the one misplay which is credited to Hovey being entirely excusable. This means a good deal, for Brown put a strong team in the field and several balls were knocked out that were hard to get. They were all fielded, not only cleanly, but quickly and prettily. Hovey in particular played a remarkable game at short stop. In the fifth inning, with one man out and Mendenhall on first base, Woodcock hit a hard grounder to short. Hovey's quickness and sureness in doubling up Mendenhall and Woodcock were admirable. At the bat also our men did excellent work. Woodcock pitched a good game, but did not prove nearly as much of a puzzle as the week before. Few more hits were made than in the previous game, but they were a strong contrast to the hits of the week before in being clean and well bunched. The Brown men made but two errors and played altogether a strong game, so that only good hits counted. Bates pitched an excellent game for us, and the four hits which were made off his delivery were in three different innings. Cobb backed him up finely and threw prettily to to bases.

Brown made her run in the first inning. Woodcock was the first man at the bat. He knocked a fly to the out-skirts of centre field. It hit the side of a church and he took second amidst wild enthusiasm. Sexton sacrificed and Jones brought Woodcock home by a safe ground hit. This was the end of Brown's scoring.

Harvard made her runs in the second and fourth. In the second Trafford and Frothingham got their base on balls and Trafford came home on Alward's base hit to centre. Frothingham and Alward both went out at the plate, the latter being forced. Mason hit safely to left, took second while Frothingham was being put out at the plate, third on an attempted put out, and came home on Soule's base hit. Cobb had meanwhile got to first on the put out of Frothingham, and to second on the attempted put out. He also came in on Soule's hit. In the fourth Alward made a run on a two base hit to the church, an error by Woodcock, and Bates' hit. Mason got first on Woodcock's error, stole second, and he also came home on Bates' timely hit. Bates made Harvard's last run on a hit, an attempted put out, a steal, and Steere's error.
