A New Rowing Apparatus.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Dr. Sargent has just introduced into the rowing tank a new apparatus for measuring the different strokes. A tin cone is weighted to float just below the surface, and from the cone a string runs to the measuring machine. It is fastened to a bar of metal, at the other end of which there is a pencil. The pencil is constantly leaving a a mark on a sheet of paper moved by clock work. At every stroke the rush of water against the cone causes the pencil to make a sharp deflection in the course it is tracing on the paper. In this way a record is kept of every stroke.
