Changes in the Teaching Corps.

The roll of the teaching corps of the University will show few changes this year. The most important change is occasioned by the resignation of Professor Chaplin, who will go to the Washington University in St. Louis. Mr. Chaplin's place as professor of engineering has not been filled, and the Faculty have at present no information to give as to his successor. A new Dean for the Lawrence Scientific School will be appointed with in a forenight.

Among the more important new appointments are the following:

Dr. Hanus, teacher in pedagogy. Dr. Hanus is a graduate of the University of Michigan. He comes to us from the State Normal School of Colorado.

Mr. Marsh, who has been travelling in Europe for two years, and for the three years before was professor of English in the University of Kansas, will take a position in the English department.

Mr. Cummings, an old scholar and teacher here, will return to us after three years in Europe, on one of the Harvard travelling fellowships, as one of the instructors in Political Economy.

Dr. Schilling, who for five years has been professor of German in Wittemburg College, Ohio, becomes assistant professor of German.

Mr. Roland Thaxter becomes an instructor in Cryptogramic Botany.

The following appointments were approved at the Overseers' meeting yesterday:

Mr. C. A. Adams, to be instructor in Electrical Engineering. Mr. Adams comes from the Brush Electrical Works in Cleveland.

Mr. Joseph Torrey, to be Instructor in Chemistry. Mr. Torrey was here last year as an assistant in chemistry.

Mr. H. W. Haley, to be Instructor in Latin. Mr. Haley has held one of our travelling fellowships in Europe for three years.

The preachers to the University 1891-92 will be Dr. Brooke Herford, Dr. Lyman Abbott, Dr. Henry VanDyke, Dr. C. C. Everett and Dr. Leighton Parks. The first three are reappointments.
