The members of the Historical society and a few guests were entertained at the Peabody museum last evening by professor and Mrs. F. W. Putnam. Professor Putnam made a very interesting address on the evidences of the prehistoric inhabitants of America, illustrating his remarks with skulls, pottery and shell etchings of the giacial and immediately subsequent periods. The speaker said that the latest investigations go to show that the Indians are not a prehistoric race, but are the result of a mixture of two or probably three antecedent types.
