The following vote was passed at a recent meeting of the Faculty:
"Voted, That a Department of American Archaeology and Ethnology be established for the purpose of giving instruction on these subjects prepartory to the degrees of A. M. and Ph. D."
This department has already been in operation for a year. A recent gift of $30,000 for a fellowship has been made by Mrs. Mary Copley Shaw of Pitts burgh. This fellowship has been awarded to Miss Alice C. Fletcher. The department will be open only to graduates. Professor Putnam now becomes a member of the Faculty.
