Harvard Students To Vote on Divestment From Israel in Inaugural HUA Election Survey
The following is a summary of the annual report of President Walker of the Institute of Technology. From the report it appears that at the present time there are 909 students, an increase of 82 over last year. These are divided by courses as follows: Graduates, 3; regular students of the fourth year class, 110; third year, 130; second year, 148; first year, 261; special students, 257. Of the 909 students, 556 were enrolled in last year's catalogue; 255 are regular first year students, 89 are new students not of the regular first year class. Seventy-two per cent. of the whole number are regular students. The statistics show that thirty-five states of the Union are represented, together with Canada, Ireland, Scotland, Peru, Brazil, Guatemala, Turkey, the West Indies, Hawaiian, Islands, Bulgaria, Japan, Panama, and France. Five hundred and thirty three students are from this state, 114 from other New England states, while 262 are from outside of New England and 17 of these are from foreign countries. The counties of this state are all represented except Dukes and Nantucket. Suffolk sends 197, Norfolk 436. Boston leads the cities and towns with 180, while twenty-five other towns send at least four. The average age of the entering class is 222.4 months against 223 5 months for last year's class.
There are thirty-three women in the the Institute. Of the specials, nine are of the chemical and physical courses, nine study biology and like subjects, four mathematics, and one architecture. There are fifty students of institutes conferring degrees on the lists for, the present year. Of the fourth year two are of course 1, three of course 2, 1 course 4. Third year-three in course 6, one in course 10 Second year-two take course 1, one course 2, and five course 6, while eighteen are specials. The second year class is divided as follows: Civil 29, mechanical 29, mining 7, architectural 16, chemistry 5, electrical 43, biological 4, physics 1, general 5, chemical engineering 3, sanitary engineering 6. The number of instructors including the instructors in the shops is 92 against 79 of last year.
