Reports come from New Haven to the effect that Stagg may possibly pitch on the nine again. At present he says that it is impossible that he should do so, but it is believed that rather than see Yale lose he will again enter the box. Such a contingency is thought to be quite probable in view of the fact that the candidates for pitcher on the Yale nine have not yet developed anything like the usual strength. Stagg has already played on the Yale team for five years. In his freshman year he played third base, and since then he has been in the box, pitching in almost all the championship games. From this time until the beginning of the season the candidates for the Yale team will be coached by Stagg who will give his especial attention to the batting, and to the men who are training for positions on the battery. Owing to the mild weather the men have been able to do some work on the open gymnasium lot but most of the work has been done in the cage.
