The N. E. Skating Association Carnival.

Next Saturday afternoon and evening. February 1, the New England Skating association will hold its 1890 carnival at Spy Pond, Arlington, Amateurs only may enter the races and all entries and fees must be sent either to G. B. Adams, North Cambridge, or to Secretary Philip Emerson, 42 Franklin St., Boston. In case the weather prevents the races being held, the fees will be returned. The aim of the association is to develop in young men a love for the outdoor sports of winter and the experience of last year's carnival proves that any good skater can win a prize, for professionals are strictly barred. Harvard men are especially urged to compete.

The following is a list of the races and of the prizes, part of which are on exhibition in Leavitt and Peirce's window: Two mile open-entrance fee $1, 1st prize gold medal, 2nd prize silver medal, third prize bronze medal; five mile open-entrance fee 50 cents, 1st prize pair gold inlaid skates, second prize pair gold inlaid skates, second prize silver cup, third prize pair American skates; 220 yards dash open-fee 50 cents, 1st prize Waltham silver watch, 2nd prize silver carving set; backward race open, no fee-1st prize split bamboo rod, 2nd prize pair opera glasses; figure contest, open, fee $1-1st prize gold medal, 2nd prize silver medal, 3rd prize bronze medal; mile championship of Massachusetts, fee $1-1st prize, silver medal, 2nd prize pair of B and B racers, 3rd prize bronze medal; hurdle race open to New England, no fee-1st prize pair inlaid skates, in plush case, 2nd prize pair best American club skates; figure skating for championship of New England, fee $1-1st prize association gold medal, 2nd, pair B and B Expert skates, 3rd prize association bronze medal; potato race (open to boys under 20)-1st prize pair American club skates, 2nd prize lantern, 3rd prize oak polo stick; open race for women-1st prize pair of ladies skates in plush case, 2nd prize pair of B and B ladies skates. A definite announcement concerning the races will be made in the papers of next Friday.
