The third and final game for the chess championship of the college was played yesterday afternoon between S. W. Sturgis '90, and F. W. Nicolls '92, at the rooms of the latter. The first move fell by lot to Sturgis, who opened with the "Scotch Gambit" in which the first player sacrifices a pawn for the sake of a strong attack. By the eighth move Sturgis had recovered the pawn, but their positions were nearly equal. For the next few moves each party slowly brought out his pieces, and Nicolls developed a slight attack, which was strengthened by a mistake of his opponent. From this point the game was entirely in Nicolls' favor and on the twenty-third move Sturgis was obliged to resign. The game as a whole was rather well played, but not particularly interesting. This match gives the championship of the college to Nicolls.
