The first debate of the Harvard Union for the second half-year will be held at 7.30 this evening. The subject for discussion is-"Resolved: That the annexation of Canada would be for the best interests of the United States." The speakers formerly announced for the negative were not able to take part in the debate, and have been replaced by G. A. Reisner, '89, and R. C. Surbridge, '89. T. Woodbury, '89, and J. J. Higgins, L. S., will speak on the affirmative.

The three questions to be presented for choice of subject for the next debate are as follows:- Resolved: That the Australian system of electing public officials should be adopted in the United States. Resolved: That the Government should use a part of the surplus in enlarging our ocean carrying trade. Resolved: That the United States should maintain the independence of the Samoan Islands.
