An exciting and well played game of ball was played on Holmes Field yesterday afternoon between the 'varsity and the Eastern league team Wilkesbarre. It took eleven innings before the game was decided. The visiting team obtained a lead in the first two innings, and kept it until the last inning when Harvard made a fine brace and tied the score. In the eleventh inning Wilkesbarre obtained three runs and won the game. The game was by far the best which has been played here this year. Harvard played a good up hill game after the second inning, and the tying of the score was due to steady, cool playing. The work of the infield was good with the exception of the short stop who played a rather listless game. The base running was poor, for the simple reason that the base runners did not pay close attention to the coaching Wilkesbarre got a run in the first on a hit, Cumming's fumble in left field, a passed ball and a sacrifice. She got three more runs in the next inning, three hits being made together a sacrifice, a wild pitch, and Mumford's bad muff of a pop-fly. The visitors made no more runs until the fifth inning when Pettit came to the bat and made a clean three base hit, coming in on Irwin's put out. In the next inning Black and Flanagan each made base hits. Black got run out, however, between third and home, but O'Brien made a home run along the third base line, and brought in two runs. In the next four innings Harvard played such a sharp game that Wilkesbarre was unable to score. Downer during this time pitched a fine game, and he was well supported by the rest of the team.

Harvard began her scoring in the second inning when Mumford got his base on Henshaw's out, and was brought home by Cumming's pretty three bagger. Cummings came home on Evans' sacrifice, and Harvard had two earned runs. In the fifth inning Dean crossed the plate, making the round of the bases on Pettit's wild throw, a daring steal, and Piper's sacrifice. In the next inning Mumford made a hit and reached home, Dean got his base on balls and came home on O'Brien's fearfully wild throw to the home plate, In the next Howland also made a hit, and came home on Henshaw's two base hit. In the eighth inning Harvard got an earned run. Dean made a clean hit over second base, stole second and came in on Downer's single. When Harvard came to the bat in the latter half of the ninth inning, the score was eight to seven in favor of the visitors. Willard made a fine three base hit near the foul line in right field, and got gome on Henshaw's single. Neither side scored in the tenth inning. In the eleventh Howland and Mumford each made errors and these misplays together with a base on balls, and two hits gave the winning runs.

In the tenth inning Mumford, Dean and Willard made a pretty double play, and in the eleventh Williams made a beautiful throw from left field to first base and caught Piper. Howland made a fine fly catch in the eighth. The score:
