The Cornell Crew.

Unusual interest has been manifested in rowing at Cornell this year. This is due to the fact that the University will this year be represented for the first time by a eight, the crew in former years having been composed of but six men. The candidates for the crew have been under the charge of Courtney, the well-known oarsman, and he feels confident that Cornell will put a good crew on the water. He describes the stroke as the "get there" variety used by Hanlan, O'Conner and Teemer.

The number of candidates was this week reduced to twelve. The names of these twelve men were announced last Thursday. They were as follows:

The crew will row Columbia and University of Pennsylvania at New London on June 27. If a race can be arranged with Yale or Harvard this race will come before the triangular one. From New London the crew will go to Philadelplna to row for the Childs cup with Columbia and Pennsylvania, between June 27 and July 4. If they are in Philadelphia on July 4, they will row for the Sharpless cup.

Commodore Psotta, of Cornell, the amateur champion single sculler of America is going to England early in May to row for the diamond sculls at Henley. Gardner of the Oxford crew and Nichols stroke of Cambridge will compete with him. He will try to enter the four-mile Wingfield sculls in the middle of July and will go from there to the German regattas and the exposition race at Paris.
