NEW HAVEN, CONN., Oct. 5, 1897.
Harvard's tennis players met with a keen disappointment here this morning when it was found that they were all drawn in the first half of the matches, bringing them together as soon as the first round was played. The Harvard men, however, give promise of winning the tournament.
The summary of today's play follows:
Singles.
Leo Ware, Harvard, defeated P. B. Hawk, Wesleyan, 6-2, 6-0.
D. H. Fuller, Cornell, defeated B. H. Smith, Wesleyan, 6-3, 6-3.
Richard Hooker, Yale, defeated H. Hastings, Wesleyan, 6-2, 6-0.
S. D. Forbes, Harvard, defeated Ed. Munday, Cornell, 6-3, 6-3.
Doubles.
Whitman and Ware, Harvard, defeated Hawk and Smith, Wesleyan, 6-1, 6-1.
Noyes and Hackett, Yale, defeated Munday and Fuller, Cornell, 6-1, 6-3.
Ward and Davis, Harvard, defeated Linen and Thompson, Princeton, 6-2, 6-2.
At the annual business meeting of the association held last evening, Clarence P. Dodge of Yale, was elected president; D. F. Davis of Harvard, vice-president, and Richard Hooker of Yale, secretary. It was voted to hold next year's tournament at New Haven.
