Harvard played Philips Andover academy yesterday afternoon on Jarvis field. Two twenty-minute halves were played.
On the first rush Andover gained five yards. Cumnock stopped Bliss and Andover was forced to kick. Harding caught the ball. Andover gained nothing. Lee started well and by hard running passed everything and scored in three minutes. Goal by Trafford. 6-0. Andover started off vigorously again and shoved the Harvard rusuline back ten yards. Stone kicked. Harding caught but was immediately downed. Presently Trafford returned the kick and Blanchard got the ball, but was thrown on twenty-five yard line. Harding rushed again. Nothing gained. Andover kicked. Trafford gained five yards and rushes by Harding and Goldthwai e gained nothing. Addiss got around the end but Dean threw him well. Taylor tried the same trick but was held by Cumnock. Again Andover shoved Harvard's rush line back but was soon forced to kick. Trafford returned, and Andover's ball. Andover lost live yeards but gained ten by running around ends. Harvard's ball on four down. Lee, by two rushes gained thirty five yards. Andover's ball. Returned to Harvard on three downs. Lee got five yards more. Trafford tried for a goal from the field but failed. And ver scored a safety. Score 8-0. Andover's half-backs gained by running around ends. Hallowell tackled well. Stone kicked. Harding and Blanchard each gained fifteen yards and Lee carried the ball across the line assisted by Trafford's blocking. Goal. 14-0. Time twenty-three minutes.
The second half was better played by Harvard. The first rush gained twenty yards. Harding ganed nothing by a rush. Harvard's rush line stood up to their work in better style and enabled Lee, assisted by Trafford's blocking, to score a ouchdown. No goal. Score 18-0. One minute The ball was badly fumbled when passed and rolled toward Andever's goal. Dean fell on it and carried it across the line. Goal. Score 24-0, 3 minutes. Cranston downs his man, Andover kicks and Trafford gains ten yards by rushing. Upton breaks through and scores from centre of field. Goal. Score 0-0. Harvard's good pass and Harding's rush with Trafford's kick and Cumnock's tackle gain thirty yards. Andover kicked but Harding fumbled and lost twenty yards. Upton again rushes and is well tackled. Lee runs off bounds, Harding's rush is stopped and Trafford kicks. It is Cumnock's ball, off bounds. Ball passed to Lee who easily scores. Goal. Score, 36-0, twelve minutes. Ball was rushed towards Harvard's goal, twenty yards, but Lee regained lost ground and ran off bounds. Harvard shoved well. Upton gave Harvard the ball. Harding did some good dodging and brought the play to Andover's twenty-five yard line. Trafford kicked a goal from the field. Score 41-0. During the last two minutes, Harding, although he fumbled badly, did good dodging and together with Lee carried the ball to Andover's twe ty-five yard line. The teams plaved as follows:
