The service was opened with the singing of the anthem "Alla Trinita." Dr. Andrew P. Peabody preached the sermon from the text found in the forty-second verse of the twenty-second chapter of Matthew: "Whose son is he?" It is often possible to learn the traits of a father from a close knowledge of the character of a son. Christ himself said, "If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also," and in the life of Christ we have had a perfect likeness of God's goodness and purity. In these days the trouble is that those who profess to be sons of God, do not give to the outside world traits belonging to the Father-they do not reflect his "loving kindnesses and tender mercies." It should be the aim of all of us who call ourselves Christians, to live in such a way that by our actions we may reflect the goodness of God and may prove ourselves to be his true sons.

In addition to the opening anthem, the choir sang "Jubilate," and Costa's "Let the People Praise Thee."
