The annual tournament of the New Haven Lawn Tennis Association will be held upon the grounds of the Association on Whitney Avenue, beginning Wednesday, June 20. Prizes are offered in gentleman's singles and doubles for first and second places. The winner of the singles will play H. W. Slocum, '82, the present holder of the New England Championship Prize Cup, which he has held during the past year.
The New Haven Club, numbering some two hundred and fifty members, is making every effort to make the affair a complete success, and the courts are in the best possible condition. About fifty out of town players will be present. among them men from Harvard, Yale, and Trinity, and the tournament will consequently be very well contested. The preliminary rounds will be the best two out of three sets, with advantage games in the deciding set, and the finals the best three out of five, with advantage throughout. The play on the first day will commence at 11 a. m., and 2.30 p. m., and at 10.30 a. m. and 2.30 p. m. for the rest of the time. The entrance fee for singles is $2.00, and for doubles $4.00. The rules of the United States National Lawn Tennis Association will govern the play, and Wright and Ditson's balls will be used.
