The funeral of Professor Asa Gray took place Thursday noon in Appleton Chapel. The services were very simple, and, with the exception of a very few floral decorations, there was an absence of display. Rev. Dr. Peabody read passages from the Scriptures and Dr. McKenzie delivered the eulogy. Among the many people present were the officers of the University, Judge Hoar, President Dwight, James Rus sell Lowell, and other eminent gentlemen. The remains of Professor Gray were taken to the Mt. Auburn Cemetery, where they were placed in the family vault.
