Gymnasium Contest at Yale.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The fifth of the series of gymnasium contests at Yale was held last Friday evening. A large attendance was present and much enthusiasm was evinced: Owing to the unusual number of contestants, who were chiefly from the two lower classes, and the frequency of the contests, only two events were on the programme. After a close and spirited struggle, the shot-putting was won by Hartwell, '89 S., with a put of 33 feet. Williams, '91, easily took the running high jump at 5 feet 4 inches. The interest shown in these meetings by contestants and other members of the University is a matter of wonder when contrasted with the deplorable state of indifference that invariably attends the contests at Hemenway.
