Saturday was a favorable day for track athletics. At the trials of the candidates for the Mott Haven team, the following men were winners.
110 and 130 yards dash - Baker, '86, 1st; time for 110 yards, 11 1-5 seconds; 130 yards, 13 seconds. Baker broke the best amateur records for both distances. The previous records were 11 1-2 seconds for the 110 yards, and 13 1-2 seconds for the 130 yards.
120 yards hurdle race - Bradley, '86, 18 1-2 seconds.
Pole vault - Frothingham, '86; 9 feet.
Quarter mile run - Wells, '86; 50 3 5 seconds.
220 yards dash - Fiske, '86; 23 4-5 seconds. Afterwards, Baker ran the distance alone in 23 1-5 seconds.
1-2 mile run - Cogswell, '88; 2 minutes, 4 seconds. Dana. '88, second by a few feet.
Mile run - 1st, Holt, '86; 4 minutes, 46 seconds. 2nd, Dudley, '87; 4 minutes, 47 seconds.
Mile walk - Bemis, '87; 7 minutes, 5 seconds. The first half mile was walked in 3 minutes 22 seconds.
Broad jump - Smith, '86; 20 feet, 1 inch.
Putting the shot - Chamberlain, '86; 38 feet, 8 inches. Clark, '86; 38 feet, 6 inches.
Throwing the hammer - Chamberlain, '86; 88 feet, 9 inches. Gibson, '88; 83 feet, 4 inches. On the second throw the handle of the hammer broke and the men only had two throws a piece in consequence.
