Man Who Managed Clients for High-End Cambridge Brothel Network Pleads Guilty
The first concert of the season took place last night in Sanders before a very large audience, nine-tenths of whom were not students of Harvard University; in fact about the only under-graduates present were the ushers. The programme was as follows:-
Weber. Overture to Euryanthe
Gluck. Aria from Orpheus
Devorak. Suite in D, op. 39
Beethoven. Symphony in D, No. 2
On account of the illness of Mr. Gericke, Concert-meister Kneisel conducted the orche-tra. and did it in a very effective manner.
The overture to Euryanthe was rather burried, and at times carelessly played. The redeeming feature was the manner in which the united strings rendered the passage near the end. This was exquisite.
Mlle. Helene Hastreiter rendered the Aria from Orpheus in a dramatic but rather harsh style. Her voice is very rich and melodious in the lower register, but inchmed to be throaty in high sustained passages. She sings utterly without sentiment.
The Suite is a very graceful composition and the Minuet and Finale have decided character and were splendidly rendered.
The symphony showed the vast improvement the orchestra has made since last year. The wind and wood instruments are decidedly better, especially the flute and oboe. In the last two movements the attack of the violins was wonderful and it is hard to see how Mr. Gericke could have bettered it had he been leading himself.
We think we express the sentiments of the college in wishing that the management will let us hear Miss Emma Juch before the end of the season.
