Foot-Ball.

In the game yesterday on the Union Grounds, the Harvard eleven defeated the Institute team. Although eleven touchdowns were made by Harvard, only four goals were kicked. The day was fine and the grounds in good condition. In the absence of Mr. Brooks, who was attending the foot-ball convention in New York, Mr. Fletcher acted as captain for Harvard.

Harvard won the toss and chose the west goal. By good rushing and tackling by Harvard the ball was worked down near Tech's goal. On a fumble by Porter, Harvard lost the ball, but a kick out of bounds returned it to them and almost immediately Fletcher made a touchdown, Time, 3.36. The try for goal by Holden was unsuccessful. After a succession of punts a good rush by Wadsworth gained Tech some ground. Sears made a fair catch, and on his kick Harvard got the ball and made another touchdown. The try for goal was again unsuccessful.

Harvard scored another touchdown in three minutes, though Vorce did some good tackling. The trial for goal again failed. After some punting by both sides Harvard made the fourth touchdown. The Techs, aided by several muffs by Harvard's half backs, kept the ball nearer the centre of the field. Wadsworth made some very pretty kicks and Goodhue tackled well. Soon, however, Porter made a beautiful rush and scored another touchdown. Two touchdowns in quick succession were soon made by Harvard, from one of which a goal was kicked by Holden. The inning closed soon after with the ball near Techs' 25-yard line. Score, 30-0.

The Techs finally got the ball very near their goal line. Wadsworth made a good kick, but the ball was immediately returned, aud a safety was the result. Holden, in falling hurt his ankle quite severely, and was obliged to retire, Morse taking his place.

Butler scored a touchdown, from which Sears kicked a goal. Faulkner made a fine rush, getting within a few yards of Techs' goal. After two unsuccessful attempts, Fletcher rushed through and made a touchdown, from which Sears kicked another goal.

Fletcher soon made a magnificent rush and pass to Harding, the latter continuing it and scoring a touchdown. The ball was punted out and a fair catch made, but the try for goal was unsuccessful. Rushes by Fletcher and Porter brought the ball well toward the Techs' goal, and Porter made another touchdown, from which Sears kicked a goal. Time was called soon after, with the ball nearly in the centre of the field. Final score-Harvard, 11 touch-downs, from four of which goals were kicked, one safety by Tech, total 54; Technology, 0.

The teams were made up as follows: Harvard - Rushers, Harding, Faulkner, Butler, Smith; centre, Bartol, Mumford and Holden; quarter-back and captain, Fletcher; half-backs, Sears, Porter; full back, Boyden. Technology - Rushers, Vorce, Bartlett, Dame, Taintor; centre, Ladd, Tracy, Good-hue; quarter-back and captain, Herrick; half-backs, Wadsworth, Durfee; back, Duane. Mr. J. S. Fillmore was referee.
