'Varsity vs. Freshmen.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

An interesting match was played on Saturday between the 'Varsity and Freshman cricket elevens, and though the former won, the Freshmen deserve a great deal of credit for their good fight.

The first innings of the Freshmen was rather long, but only productive of 58 runs; Balch's patient innings was the best for his side, and the batting showed a regularity which was very desirable. Clark and Sullivan did the best bowling for the 'Varsity, and Frost fielded as well as usual.

Clark and Quinby made a long stand and 48 runs were up when the latter got out; but the rest of the eleven soon fell victims to the bowling of Captain Brown and Barney. The fielding of the Freshmen was steady but not brilliant.

In their second innings the Freshmen made a much larger score, owing to the brilliant batting of Captain Brown, whose 55 was obtained by hard, clean hitting; Quinby and Captain Ellis distinguished themselves in the bowling line. Had time allowed, the Freshmen might have given the 'Varsity a very close fight for victory. Below is the score:
