Baby Ansons vs. Bostons.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The championship game between the Baby Ansons and Bostons was played on Jarvis yesterday morning before an admiring and enthusiastic audience. The game was played under protest by the Baby Ansons, because of the fact that the Bostons put in Butterworth, a substitute on the Freshman nine to pitch for them. The Baby Ansons were first at the bat and succeeded in piling up eight runs in the first inning, by means of bunched hits and by costly errors of the rattled Bostons. But the latter gradually caught up with their opponents and finally won by a score of 17 to 19. The special features of the game were Gleason's perfect work in the Baby Ansons left field; Paine's work behind the bat for the same nine and Page's beautiful "taking in" of some difficult flies in Bostons center field.

In all probability this game will be given to the Baby Ansons, being forfeited by the Bostons by their playing a man as pitcher, who has been and probably is now a substitute on a class team.

It is to be hoped that competent umpires will be furnished by the management of the Base-Ball Association for the remainder of the games in the Series as nothing is better calculated to make a game interesting for spectators and players alike, than good umpiring, [and in games so "important" as these, the best preparation for securing absolute fairness should be taken.
