President Adams of Cornell is enthusiastic over the unprecedented prosperity of the university. A law department will probably be established next year, for which the trustees have bought a library of 4100 volumes. The professors' salaries were last year raised an aggregate of $8000. They range from $4500 to $3000, with a few assistants under that. There are 637 students this term from whom the income is $4000 more than it was last year: and then the university income was $30,000 more than its expenses. Up to date, the university has sold 990,000 acres of its Wisconsin lands for $4,000,000, which sum gives an income of $200,400 annually. There still remain unsold 160,000 acres, which are steadily increasing in value.

Co-education at Cornell is in high favor, for Sage College is full. Hon. Henry W. Sage lately gave $60,000 for the endowment of a chair in Christian ethics and mental philosophy, and next year there comes to the university as head of the department of Philosophy Prof. J. G. Schuman, who at present holds a chair at Dalhousie College, Halifax. Furthermore, the department of oriental languages will be discontinued. Next year, beside the probable establishment of the Cornell law school, special attention will be paid to the classical and chemical departments, each of which will be built up in various directions. - Boston Herald.
