Appended is the programme of last night's Symphony Concert:

L. Cherubini. Overature ("Anacreon.")

Fr. Liszt. Concerto for Pianoforte in E flat

H. Reinhold. Prelude, Menuet and Fugue.

Beethoven. Symphony in C minor, No. 5.

Soloist: Frl. Adele Aus Der Ohe.

Cherubini's overature ("Anacreon") was played in a masterly manner, the fine quality of the strings being especially praiseworthy. The soloist of the evening, Frl. Adele Aus Der Ohe, created wonderful enthusiasm by her fresh and inspired playing. She possesses a remarkably delicate touch, and at the same time has sufficient power and technique to play the most exhausting concerto. It is a pity that she chose the E flat concerto of Liszt as her solo number, as it offers very little that is appreciable. Frl. Aus Der Ohe was recalled at least seven times by the combined applause of the orchestra and the Cambridge audience, which had really been thoroughly aroused by the brilliant playing of the artist.

The playing of Reinhold's Prelude, Menuet and Fugue for string orchestra, was an evidence of what the orchestra can do when it is not hampered by discordant trumpets and flutes. There was no unevenness in strings - the whole was perfectly homogeneous.

The fifth symphony was not rendered as well as was the fourth symphony some time ago. There seemed to be no mutual understanding between the brass and the wood instruments. Taken as a whole, the symphony was given in a mechanical and rather negligent manner. Last night's concert was the last of the series.
