The Class Crews.

I. - THE JUNIOR CREW-AN INDIVIDUAL CRITICISM.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The '88 crew started in immediately after Christmas with twenty-three men of which but three were old men. The crew has been rowing nearly six weeks, and is now cut down to ten. It is too early to make any estimate of what the crew will do, or whom it will comprise but the faults of the several candidates are as follows:

Bow. - Slumps. Fails to draw his hand past his sides. Careless of time. Hangs at times. Must pay better attention. Must keep arms straight.

2. - Goes back too far. Very slow on the recover. Doesn't start promptly on the recover and then rushes.

3. - Doesn't get a good seat. Hangs at full reach and overreaches. Must keep shoulders down and back. Doesn't straighten arms. Must keep head up and wrists straight. Must sit higher.

4. - No life. Arms bent too much, Hangs at both ends, and fails to get a good pressure on his stretcher. Careless about time.

5. - Goes back too far. Wabbles less than heretofore. Must not bend wrist at full reach. Slumps a little.

6. - Jerks. Doesn't get firm pressure. Works with one leg. Hangs. Rushes on recover, and doesn't slow up on full reach.

7. - Wabbles and fails to get good even pressure on stretcher. Must keep stomach out. Hangs and rushes at full reach. Slumps. Has improved in smoothness.

8. - Fails to sit up. Slumps badly. Too stiff and jerky. Overreaches. Doesn't keep stomach out. Must keep shoulders down and head well up. Must get even pressure on stretcher.

9. - Hangs. Doesn't row evenly. Does't keep firm hold with outside hand. Must keep right shoulder down.

10. - Hangs. Doesn't always draw oar clear in. Not enough difference between stroke and recover.
