The University Foot-Ball Team.

On Saturday, Harvard played its first championship game, and a few criticisms on the team do not seem out of place at this time. All the men have worked hard and faithfully under Capt. Holden, but we have been exceptionally unfortunate in having a large number of men injured. The men who wili represent Harvard in the games are as follows: Sears, '90; Porter, '88; Holden, '88; Saxe, '88; Harding, '89; Bancroft, '88; Butler, '88; Trafford, '89; Woodman, '88; Wood, '88; Piper, '90; Boyden, L. S.; Cumnock, '91; Nichols, '91; Finley, '91.

Sears, full-back, has the great fault of not falling on the ball. Is inclined to fumble, but when he gets the ball runs hard and well.

Porter, half-back, fumbles badly. Does not keep his mind on the game, and thus misses many of his most valuable chances. Tackles well.

Holden, half-back, kicks poorly. Runs into a crowd instead of dodging around.

Harding, quarter-back, is one of the hardest workers on the team. His passing has been poor, but he is improving of late in that respect. One of the few on the team who tackle low.

Bancroft, end rush, is a good tackler, but is slow in getting down on to the ball, and when he gets it does not run hard.

Butler, tackle, is an energetic worker. Does not break through to meet his opponents, but lets them come down on him.

Trafford, right guard, blocks well. Must run harder when he gets the ball. Is inclined to fumble.

Woodman, left guard, fumbles badly. Very weak at blocking. Tackles and runs hard.

Piper, tackle. Does not fall on the ball at all. Breaks through and runs well, but not hard enough.

Boyden, end rush, overuns his men in tackling. Allows men to get around him. Runs well and low. Tackles poorly.

Cumnock, end rush, tackles well and falls on ball quickly, but allows men to run around him.

Saxe, half-back, is weak at tackling. Fumbles. A splendid kicker and runs well.

Nichols is a good foot-ball player but loses his head at critical times.

Finley has been playing centre rush, but is laid up at present. There are several trying for the position, but it has not been definitely settled yet who will fill it.

Wood, left tackle, has a sore foot, but will be out again before many days.

The team as a whole, has not done much team work as yet-owing to the frequent changes-and they do not play a steady game. They play brilliantly at times and then go all to pieces. Until this is remedied, we cannot hope to do anything with Yale or Princeton.
