Foot-Ball.

The Williams College team, accompanied by about fifteen supporters, played a good game against our team on Jarvis Field yesterday afternoon. Play began at 4 o'clock with Williams at the end of the field with the sun in their eyes. Longwell passed the ball to Kimball, who made a short run. On the 4th down Williams carried the ball back twenty yards but on the next Harvard had the ball. Woods and Sears made runs. Latter tackled by Roland. Sixe plays well out and Harding passes it out to him and he makes the first touchdown four minutes after the game began. Score 6-0.

Kimball tries another run but Butler throws him. The ball is given to Belden and he advances a few yards and Bradlee is on to him. Orcult follows with a run. Bradlee has a chance to make a tackle, but is not quick enough. Harvard secures the ball and Wood carries it down the field. Saxe's kick is stopped by the William's rushers and Beldon falls on it. The Williams quarter back makes a foul and Harvard takes the ball in the middle of the field. It is passed to Porter who carries it behind the goal posts. Goal. Score, 12-0. Williams tries the same tactics but Kimball only advances a few yards. Morse stops Roland's run and the ball goes to Harvard. Sanford tackles Wood well, but Harvard drives the Williams men down the field and Harding goes over the line. No goal. Score, 16-0.

Kimball repeats his short run after the ball is put in play and Roland makes a try but the ball goes to Harvard on the fourth down once more. Harding makes a wretched pass to Saxe and Harvard loses ground. Wood carries the sphere back and with the aid of Porter and Appleton gets to the 20-yard line. Saxe takes the ball over and twenty-four minutes after the play began makes the fourth touchdown, but does not succeed in kicking a goal. Score, 20-0.

After William's has four downs Butler makes a run and Sears scores. No goal. Score, 24-0. The first half ended with the ball in the possession of the Williams team.

Harding started the second half with a fine run which carried the ball well within the 25-yard line. Here it remained for some time and Harvard was unable to score. Saxe fumbles, but Porter makes a fine run. Williams soon secures the ball but are forced to make a safety. Score 26 0.

Benden runs and the Williams team improve in their playing. They had been playing a little loosely but now seemed determined to stop Harvard scoring. Nothing effectual was accomplished for several minutes, but Porter got the ball from a long pass out by Harding and secured another touchdown. Goal. Score 32-0. Porter made another rush and in three minutes crossed the line again. Score (?) No goal, as the ball strikes the post and Wood (?) on the (?) . The sphere is passed to Saxe but he makes a horrible fumble and Belden sails down the field with the ball for Harvard's goal. Saxe, Cumnock and Harding endeavor to overtake him, but are not successful and Williams makes a touchdown and also a goal. Score 36-6.

The ball goes back to Williams' territory, and Porter in four minutes crosses the line. Saxe kicks a goal. Score 42-6. Wood a few minutes later makes another touchdown. Score 46-6. No goal. The ball is kicked out from the 25 yard line and Bradlee gets it on the bounce, carries it through the opposing rush line, by the aid of good blocking and makes the last touchdown. Goal. Score 52-6. Time was called while the ball is being brought out. Perry took Sears' place for the last few minutes, as the latter had received a slight injury.

The Williams team played a good game but showed their lack of practice in games, this being their first. A very noticeable feature of their playing was that they were afraid to kick the ball.

Of the Harvard team it can be said that they blocked off well, but their tackling was for the most part miserable, and the half-backs do not seem to know where they are to kick the ball. For Harvard, Harding, Wood, Porter and Brandlee did good work, and Belden, Kimball and Orcutt for Williams. The Williams team lacked the services of Compell who played half back on the team, but had his collar bone broken a few days ago. He also played short-stop on the Williams nine last year. Hotchkiss played on the Andover team two years ago at centre rush.
