Garber Privately Tells Faculty That Harvard Must Rethink Messaging After GOP Victory
The foot-ball game yesterday was so uneven that it would have been wholly uninteresting if it had not been for the brilliant rushes made repeatedly by the Harvard backs. The Exeter men were small and light, and unable to hold the Harvard rushers; consequently with a very few exceptions, the Exeter backs were tackled almost before they reached the line. What gains Exeter did make were through the centre of the Harvard team.
The Harvard interference was very good though it was done mostly by the backs.
The best playing for Exeter was done by Van Leugen, Connor, Thomas and Barton. For Harvard, Hallowell and Newell, Mackie did very effective work, and the other men played a strong aggressive game. All of the backs ran and interfered well. Gray especially made long gains around the ends.
Two halves were played, one twenty-five minutes, and the other twenty, G. E. Burgess, '93, refereed, and H. S. Stickney, umpired. Harvard then started with the ball and after good rushes by Corbett, and Trafford, Gray made a touchdown from which Trafford kicked a goal. Exeter started with a V but Harvard got the ball on four downs, and Gray aided by the good interference of Gage, Corbett and Trafford, ran the whole length of the field and scored another touchdown, from which a goal was kicked; Exeter again started with a V but dropped the ball which Hallowell secured. Again Gray scored a touchdown after several rushes by Corbett and Trafford, and another goal was won. Harvard got three other touch downs during the first half, Trafford, Gray and Hallowell, each making one, while Trafford kicked two of the goals. Score 34 to 0.
In the second half Foster, Fairchild and Fennessy played in place of Collamore Gage and Trafford. Exeter started with the ball but lost it to Harvard and soon Gray had another touchdown. Goal by Corbett.
Harvard made four other touchdowns Gray making one and Corbett three. while Corbett got 3 goals.
