Candidates for Freshman Nine.

In response to the notice of Captain Morgan, about twenty men presented themselves as candidates for the freshman nine last evening. This is a good showing, and is about the same number as have appeared at the first meeting of freshman nines in past years. Following is a list of the candidates: Morgan, Clark, Henley, Shattuck, Woodbury, Weaver, Heaton, Pillsbury, Bingham, Slattery, Monro, Kimball, McKay, Raymond, Downes, Pervere, McPherson, Norman, Carey, Austin. In addition to these men, Hensbaw, Young, Cabot, Talbot, and Trafford will play ball.

Three men have had some experience as pitchers, Bingham, Hurley and McPherson. Bingham is a very promising player. For the position of catcher there are four candidates, Young, McKay, Raymond, and Henshaw; the last named being a candidate for the 'varsity nine. Seven men called themselves particularly fitted for positions in the infield, while the rest modestly mentioned the fielders position. Altogether there seems to be material in '89 for a good nine, and with faithful work on the part of candidates a nine ought to be put on the field which will do credit to the class.
