AGAIN VICTORIOUS.

An immense audience witnessed the first Princeton Harvard championship game. Many ladies were on the grounds, of whom the majority wore the orange and black. The game began promptly, but lasted until the unusually late hour of 6.10 P. M. The nine was accompanied by some fifteen undergraduates, who supported it to the best of their ability. At the close of the game the nine and such Harvard men as were present were entertained at dinner by the Princeton men.

THE GAME.Harvard went first to the bat, and opened the game with a base hit by Beaman. Tilden got his base on a missed third strike, advancing Beaman to second. Both scored on passed balls. Nichols and Willard were retired on strikes, and Allen closed the inning by hitting to Cooper, and being fielded out at first. Shaw, the first Princeton man at bat, struck out, but Van Ausdale scored by getting his base on balls, stealing second and reaching third and home on passed balls. Edwards went out, Nichols to Willard, and Toler retired on a long fly to Foster, Leaving the score 2 to 1 in favor of the visitors.

The second inning ended rather unprofitably for Harvard, as Smith and Wiestling struck out, while Foster, who had got first on a fumble of his hit to Blossom, was left on base by Winslow's flying out to Edwards. Blossom made matters look hopeful for the home team by making a clean drive for three bases, and scoring on the hit by Cooper, the next man at the bat. With the aid of Bickham's put-out, and the single by Reynolds, Cooper was enabled to score, and Reynolds, also crossed the plate by means of two successful steals and a passed ball. Clark struck out, and Shaw closed the inning by getting caught while attempting to steal second after reaching first on Smith's error.

With the score 4 to 2 in favor of Princeton, Harvard went to the bat for the third time, only to go out in order, Beaman on a fly to Edwards, Tilden and Nichols on strikes; but Princeton also failed to increase its score, since Van Ausdale struck out, and Edwards, after hitting safely, was caught stealing second, while Toler went out at first, Nichols assisting.

Harvard employed the fourth inning in adding one run to its score, made by Willard, who got his base on balls, went to second on a passed ball, third on Blossom's error, and home on a second passed ball. Allen went to first on the fumble of his hit by Blossom, stole second, but became the victim of a double-play when Smith hit to Toler, who touched first, and fielded to third. Wiestling failed to find the ball. In Princeton's half of the inning, nothing of note occurred except the prompt retirement of the first three men at bat. Score 4 to 3 in favor of the home team.

Both nines drew blanks in the fifth inning. Foster went out, Blossom to Toler; Winslow hit to Edwards, who fielded promptly to first; Tilden fouled out to Shaw, leaving Beaman on third, where he had arrived by the aid of his hit and a passed ball. Though Princeton got two men on bases, both were kept from scoring.

Nichols got his base in the sixth on an error by Edwards, went to second and third on a passed ball and wild pitch, and was brought in by Willard's two-bagger. Willard went to third on a passed ball, but was put out at the plate. Allen flied out to Clark. Smith reached first on Willard's put-out, went to third on a passed ball, and was left there when Wiestling went out, Edwards to Toler. For Princeton the first three men, Toler, Blossom and Cooper, were promptly disposed of on a long fly to Foster and two strikeouts. Score, 4 to 4.

Harvard now proceeded to win the game. Foster took first on Blossom's error. Winslow hit for two bases, bringing in Foster. Beaman sent Winslow over the plate by a safe hit, and scored on Tilden's splendid home run. Nichols, Willard and Smith struck out, but Allen in the interim secured a run on a hit, a steal, a passed ball and a wild pitch. While Bickham, Clark and Shaw were going out on strikes, Reynolds crossed the plate by the aid of a hit, an error, a daring steal and a wild throw. Score, 9 to 5 for Harvard.

Foster added a run to Harvard's score, in the eighth inning, by striking vigorously at a wild pitch, going to third on passed balls and coming home on Beaman's hit. Foster got his base on balls, but was left on third, as Van Ausdale, Blossom and Edwards struck out. Score, 10 to 5 against Princeton.

In the ninth inning Harvard duplicated its score of the seventh. Nichols went to first on a dropped third strike, and scored on a wild pitch, a dropped fly, and a passed ball. Willard hit a long fly to Reynolds, who dropped it, allowing him to reach second; a passed ball sent him to third. Allen hit safely, bringing in Willard, went to second, third, and home, on an error by Clark and two passed balls. Smith got his base on balls, and scored on passed balls, a wild throw and a hit. Wiestling hit safely, and went the round of the bases on a wild throw to Reynolds. Foster and Winslow struck out. Beaman hit for two bases, but was left on third by Tilden's long fly to Reynolds. Cooper scored the final run for Princeton on an error by Wiestling, a steal and a hit, leaving the score 15 to 6 in Harvard's favor.
