The first of the series of contests held in the gymnasium was very successful considering the little practice the men have had so far. There were five entries in the running high jump, which resulted in a tie between R. S. Hale, '91, and S. R. Bell, '91, who both jumped 5 ft. 4 1-4 in.

In putting the shot, J. R. Finlay, '91, won with a put of 31 ft. 10 3 4 in. H. Pennypacker, '88, was second with a put of 34 ft. There were four entries.

The pole vault was won by E. C. Mason, '88. who vaulted 8 ft. 9 in. R. G. Leavitt, who was handicapped one foot, vaulted 9 ft. 6 in., thus tieing with Wheelwright, '90, who vaulted 8 ft. 6 in., for second place.

There were fewer entries than were expected in all three events. At the close of the series, a first prize will be given for the best average in each event, and a second prize to the man showing the greatest improvement in each event.
