Yesterday afternoon the '86 and '88 athletic meeting occurred on Holmes Field. A fair-sized audience was present and witnessed a very good exhibition in many of the events. The entries were few, but the records made in most of the events were very credit able. The record was broken in the two-mile bicycle race, and in putting the shot.
TWO MILE BICYCLE RACE.Dean, '88, was the only entry. He broke the Harvard record, making the two miles in 6m. 39 4 5s. The record before this was 6m. 48s.
PUTTING THE SHOT.Clark, '86, broke the record by a throw of 37 feet. Kip, '83, had the record, 35 feet 11 inches, which was the United States college record. Cuzner, of McGill University, Canada, holds the American college record by his throw of 37 ft. 10 in.
'86. BROAD JUMP.Entries.- Lander, Bradley, Churchill. Won by Bradley by a jump of 20 ft. 3 1-2 in.
'88. QUARTER-MILE RUN.Entries.- Dana, Davidson. Won by Dana in 56 3-4s.
'86. 220-YARDS DASH.Entries.- Churchill, Lander, R. D. Smith. The event was closely contested. R. D. Smith was the winner in 24 1-2s.
'88. BROAD JUMP.Entries.- Brewer, Peck, Lund. The winner was Lund, who jumped 18 ft. 11 in.
'86. 100-YARDS DASH.Entries.- R. D. Smith, Bradley, Carey. The winner was R. D. Smith, time, 10 3-5s.
'86. QUARTER-MILE RUN.Churchill and Lander were the entries. Won by Churchill in 57 1-5s.
Half an hour before the meeting, Holden and L. S. Thayer, '88, ran the 100 yards dash and the 220-yards dash. Holden won the 100 yards dash; time, 11 1 5s., and also the 220-yards dash; time, 24 1-5s.
