Prof. Sophocles' Peculiarities.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

It is a year now since the death of Prof. Sophocles. Shortly after his death, many stories about his peculiarities appeared in the daily papers. This story, which at least shows his originality, and his opinion of human nature, is told by Prof. Shaler. Prof. Sophocles happened upon Prof. Shaler, just after the examination, and Prof. Shaler was groaning over the unsatisfactoriness of correcting the examination books. Prof. Sophocles asked him in surprise, "Do you correct the Blue Books? Why do you do it? You know how much each student ought to get. If he does not do so well as you expected, it makes no difference, and if he does much better, he's cheating."
