The New York State College-championship tourney appears, from all accounts, to be a very discreditably conducted contest; for, while the Cornell University club has been playing legitimately, the Hamilton and Union College club teams, as well as that of Hobart College, employ professionals to help them win, and the Rochester University club goes outside of the institution for players. On May 22, Manager Bering of Cornell, made an affidavit, and the University Registrar signed certificate, that all the members of the Cornell nine are regular college students. Hamilton College and Union College both advertised for professionals in the New York papers, and the latter has engaged four professionals, and the former three.
