THE LACROSSE TEAM IN ENGLAND.

The action of the lacrosse meeting at the Astor House in New York on February 2 is now made public. Most of the clubs, including those of the colleges, were represented. The report of Mr. Fraser, who has been travelling in England and Ireland to make the preliminary arrangements, was read and accepted. The meeting then unanimously voted that the team be sent on or about May 7th, by the new steamship America. The number of candidates for the team up to date were twenty-seven, among them, four from Harvard, two from Yale, and six or eight from Princeton. As the proposals of Mr. Fraser met with much approval on the part of the English and Irish players, it is expected that the trip will prove a great success, and more than pay for the expenses of travelling. Anucleus of five men were chosen who should themselves select the remaining members of the team. They were, Messrs. Davis of the Union Club, Boston, Cottle of Yale, Balch of New York, Hodge, a graduate of Princeton, and Gerndt, a graduate of New York University. The whole team will consist of fourteen men, two being substitutes. The matches which have been arranged are as follows: May 17, Saturday, on the Rock Ferry grounds at Liverpool, the Cheshire County Lacrosse Association; Wednesday, May 21, at Manchester, on the Longsight cricket grounds, the Lancashire County Lacrosse Association; Saturday, May 24, same place, the North of England Lacrosse Association; Monday, May 26, or Wednesday, May 28, on the Bramhall Lane cricket grounds, Sheffield, the Yorkshire County Lacrosse Association; Saturday, May 31, Hurlingham, London, the South of England Lacrosse Association; Wednesday, June 4, Private Banks cricket grounds, London, the Middlesex County club; Saturday, June 7, the Cambridge University Lacrosse Club, at Cambridge; Wednesday, June 11, at Lord's, London, All England; Friday, June 13, on the North of Ireland cricket grounds, Belfast, All Ireland; same place, Saturday, June 14, the United Kingdom.

Before the team leaves for England it is proposed to arrange a series of matches with the various clubs of prominence in this country to test the merits of the doubtful men, and to get the members of the team accustomed to each others style of play. It is expected that one of these matches will be played here in Cambridge with our twelve. In case of the receipts in England being less than is expected, and not enough to cover expenses, several gentlemen have kindly made themselves responsible for any deficit.
