The freshmen yesterday played their fifth game with a picked team from the schools of Hopkinson and Noble. The ball was started at 4.00 P. M., Boston having the lower end of Jarvis. Porter soon secured the ball and made a good rush down the field, Reynolds was the next to get it, and he secured a touchdown, from which Porter missed a goal. After sharp playing Porter made a touchdown, and again missed a goal. Bancroft in a few minutes made the third touchdown from which Porter again failed to score. Thomas was the next lucky man; he made a free catch from which Woodman kicked a very difficult goal. Just before the end of the first half. Boston was forced to make a safety, making the score 19 to 0 against them. The playing in the second half began loosely, but Homans making a fine rush touched the ball down behind the Boston boys' goal, and Woodman again scored. Not long after, the ball came into Porters' hands, and by a good run he neatly passed all the Boston team and scored a touchdown, and Woodman added another goal to his credit. The playing then grew wretched and for a time the ball was dangerously near Harvard's goal, but by good rushing was finally sent back, and Bancroft got the sixth touchdown just before the end of the last half. No goal was made from it, and the score stood 35 to 0 in Harvards favor. Our men showed improvement, especially under the watchful eye of Mr. Adams, but they show, with few exceptions, a visible reluctance to drop on the ball. For Boston; Slocum, Nichols and Wadsworth did most of the playing.
