A Change in the Uniform of the Nine.

A change in the uniform of the base ball nine is contemplated by the management. They propose to ask permission of the cricket club to allow them to adopt a cap similar in design, crimson and black stripes, to that worn by the cricketers ; but having the stripes a little narrower, and the cloth of flannel. In addition they will have crimson and black jackets of the same material, instead of the present sombre gray ones, which they have worn in past years, when waiting their turn at the bat, and at other times when engaged in the most active exercises. The new uniforms, if adopted, will be particularly rich in appearance and will lend more color to the scene on Holmes and please the eye of the fine arts professors. It is to be hoped that the members of the cricket club will grant the desired permission and then the nine will be able to make the experiment, and everyone will have a chance to express his opinion of the result. The idea of changing back from hers to caps seems almost questionable. The flannel hat was adopted some years ago as having considerable advantages over the cap and making the college ball nines more easily distinguishable from the professional players who all wear caps. Still a cap has its advantages, and a handsome one, such as it is proposed to have, would be radically different from anything professional. Altogether, the contemplated change seems to be a good one, and we hope that the management will be able to carry out its project.
