THE HARVARD INDEX.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The first thing to greet us, as we come back from the Christmas vacation, is the Harvard Index as tastefully gotten up as ever. The Index has become one of the institutions of the college, and is always comprehensive and reliable. After looking over the book and noticing the valuable additions, nobody will be disposed to withhold the indulgence for delay, which the compiler asks in his preface.

The Beta Theta Pi and Zeta Psi fraternities, the Co-operative Society, the Total Abstinence League and the Harvard HERALD find a place in the Index this year for the first time; and a full list of members of the Harvard Union is also given.

The athletic records will be found even more valuable for reference than those given last year, and every college man will find many occasions to turn to them. There is to be found a complete list of all games played by the university and class base-ball and foot-ball teams, the lacrosse team and the cricket club. The measurements of the crew, the percentage of the nine and the tables of the best American and English college and amateur athletic records cannot fail to be of interest.

In a modest preface the compiler asks to be excused for mistakes and gives conclusive reasons for not making it an illustrated annual like those of Yale, Amherst, Columbia, etc.

On a hasty perusal, we can find nothing to criticise in the Index and much to praise. We hope the students will show in a substantial manner their appreciation of the efforts of its energetic compiler.
